Q:

At a depth of X metres,the temperature of the water is an ocean is T°C. At depths below 900 meters, T is inversely proportional to X. T is given by T=4500/X. Work out the difference in the temperature of the water at a depth of 1200 metres and the temperature of the water at a depth of 3750 metres.

Accepted Solution

A:
Hi there! The answer is 2.55°C

To find our answer we must plug in the values of X into the formula.
Depth = 1200 metres --> x = 1200 --> T = 4500 / 1200 = 3.75°C
Depth = 3750 metres --> x = 3750 --> T = 4500 / 3750 = 1.2 °C

The difference of the temperatures is 3.75°C - 1.2°C = 2.55°C
